THE date of a public inquiry relating to a rejected planning application which could see 50 homes built in Wells has been announced.

In December 2020, Gleeson Land Ltd put forward plans to build 68 homes between the A371 Haybridge Hill - which runs from Wells towards Cheddar - and the B3139 Elm Close on the western edge of the city.

These plans were upheld, until mid-2023, when the developer proposed plans for 50 homes on the same site, although these were then subsequently rejected by Somerset Council.

In May 2024, the developer lodged an appeal against this decision, and it was confirmed that a public inquiry would take place to settle the matter.

As of Thursday, July 17, it has been confirmed that the hearing will be held at the Shepton Mallet Town Council Offices on Cannards Grave Road, on Tuesday, August 6, from 10am.
