A HOLIDAY maker found an unusual way to pop the question near Yeovil this weekend, enlisting the help of an alpaca.
Joe Taylor, from Leicestershire, was holidaying with his girlfriend Katherine when the couple paid a memorable visit to Cary Alpacas, in Cary Fitzpaine, on Saturday, July 20.
Unbeknownst to Katherine, Joe was waiting for the perfect moment to have Leo the alpaca approach his girlfriend with a sign around his neck reading "Will you marry me?"
While Katherine was distracted by the adorable animal, Joe got down on one knee and after realising what was going on Katherine immediately said yes.
The couple then enjoyed a glass of champagne in the alpaca paddock.
Joe had asked Katherine’s father for his daughter’s hand in marriage before the holiday, and the unique proposal went down a storm, even with slightly overcast weather.
The surprise was organised with help from Kim Williams, the owner of Cary Alpacas. She said that Leo was chosen for the job as he's the "best-behaved alpaca" and the one that "likes to be stroked and cuddled the most".
Kim said: “We were delighted to be asked by Joe if we would assist him with his proposal to Katherine. This was a first for Cary Alpacas.
"After quite a few emails between Joe and ourselves, we came up with a suitable plan. I was so pleased and relieved when Katherine said “Yes”.
"The only thing left to do besides the alpaca walk was to toast the happy couple with a chilled glass of champagne”.
The Cary Alpaca Experience has been awarded TripAdvisor's Travellers Choice Award 2024 for the 7th consecutive year. It is open for bookings until Thursday 31st October 2024.
