WITH the schools out for summer, a list of the ‘Top 150 Outstanding Sites in the UK’ has been revealed – with six campsites in Somerset making the list.
For those in Somerset looking for a quality camping trip that they don't have to travel too far for, here are six of your best options according to campsites.co.uk.
Cheddar Bridge Touring Park:
The pick of the list must be Cheddar Bridge Touring Park. A peaceful adult-only base for exploring Somerset, this site is just a five-minute walk into the heart of Cheddar, and a 20-minute walk to the famous Gorge and caves.
Campers are clearly huge fans too, with the site receiving a 4.92 star rating on their travel listing, with 100% of people saying they would recommend the site.
One guest described the site as a great retreat for the Gorge in a comment. “We landed on our feet finding this little campsite. What a gem. It’s a great site that’s ideal for the Gorge.”

Petruth Paddocks:
Just around the corner from Cheddar Bridge Touring Park is Petruth Paddocks. Described as a “live and let live site in the countryside”, this site received a runner-up achievement for being the ‘Best Family Campsite South West England Camping and Glamping Awards’ in 2023.
Like Cheddar Bridge Touring Park, the site is very close to Cheddar Gorge and caves.
Greenacres is rated 4.82 stars on their travel listing - with it being an ideal family option.

Hadspen Glamping:
Hadspen is a great spot to go if you’re a fan of glamping. The site offers safari lodges with hot tubs in a picturesque setting. Located in between the market towns of Bruton and Castle Cary, it offers the ideal combination of country seclusion and easy access to local shops/eateries.
The site is within 30 minutes of National Trust properties – Stourhead, Glastonbury Tor and Lytes Cary.
Hadspen is rated 4.85 stars and is a luxury option for campers.

Greenacres Camping:
Family-friendly Greenacres Camping is nestled in the heart of Somerset with amazing views of Glastonbury Tor and only three miles from Wells.
A local pub, the Crossways, is within walking distance at just 15 minutes away or a 3-minute drive.

Old Oaks Touring Park:
Old Oaks Touring Park is an award-winning adult-only park with five-star amenities and an onsite fishing lake.
Spread over 15 acres, the touring park and glampsite comprises five paddocks, ranging from 11 to 27 pitches or glamping accommodation in each.
With an extensive network of nearby footpaths and cycling paths on the site, you have an abundance of opportunities to ‘get away from it all’.
Old Oaks is rated 4.98 stars, and the park is a previous winner of ‘Overall Winner’ and ‘Best Adult Only Site’ in the Practical Caravan Top 100 Awards.

Secret Valley:
Sat in Bridgwater, Secret Valley offers a camping adventure with a variety of available everyday activities, from climbing, fishing, kayaking, or couples looking for a peaceful and romantic getaway, Secret Valley seems to have something for everyone.
Having a hot tub to get into is great, and with Secret Valley’s site you can do just that – but with a bottle of complimentary wine to go with it.
The site also offers farm and vineyard tours which can be booked at an extra cost, as well as ‘DIY wine tasting’.
Rated 4.8 stars, the Secret Valley is a destination for all ages with each accommodation having its own fire pit, perfect for toasting marshmallows whilst stargazing into the night.
