Somerset Opera recently staged a riveting production of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, set against the backdrop of the Museum of Somerset's historic Low Ham mosaic.
The retelling of this tragic tale took place along an elongated catwalk strip, with the mosaic from AD 350 narrating the myth of Dido and Aeneas projected on a screen throughout the show.
The audience saw a unique blend of fine singing, remarkable acting, and breathtaking visuals.
Subtle shades of love and despair were expertly portrayed by Leila Zanette, who played the lead role of Dido, coupled with the fine performances by Amy Carsen, Bethan Terry, and Kieran Rayner.
Their characters' emotional journey through the opera was a sight to behold.
Adding a thrilling narrative were the Sorceress played by Grace Lovelass and the witches portrayed by Helena Payne and Stephanie Berner, all singing with impressive tones.
Noah Mosley, the conductor, led the Somerset Opera Chorus and Taunton Sinfonietta and managed brilliant musical contrasts throughout the evening.
The Somerset Opera, under the chairmanship of Helena Payne, provided a unique experience for the audience, looking forward to their next magical display.
The 50-year-old company has set a high bar with their latest offering.
