RESIDENTS are invited to join a drop-in event to find out more about the plans for a new transport hub on the site of the former Taunton bus station.

Somerset Council is holding a public drop-in for people who want to find out more about the project.

The session is from 2pm-5pm in Taunton Library Glass Box on Tuesday, August 6.

The hub is part of Somerset’s Bus Service Improvement plan and will offer a range of modern and sustainable transport options, including bus, coach, and bike parking.

It will also feature attractive public spaces, green areas, as well as links to the town centre and the River Tone.

The project is funded by ring-fenced Government money which can only be used to develop the transport hub.

Somerset Council is also running an online survey to gather people’s views on the plans.

The website has images and plans which can be viewed and downloaded.

The online engagement runs from July 23 to September 17.

Somerset Council’s lead member for Transport and Digital, Councillor Richard Wilkins said: “Please do try and come along to the drop-in if you can, the team can try to answer any questions you may have, and you can have a detailed look at the plans.

“The Transport Hub is a really welcome development for bus users and those wishing to cycle or walk in Taunton.”

In line with Taunton’s Garden Town Vision, the proposal aims to improve transport links in the town, making it easier and more attractive to use public transport and/or walking and cycling.
