A LEGENDARY rock band expects its Taunton gig in August to be its last ever show.

Status Quo, known for hits such as Rockin' All Over The World, will play in Vivary Park on Friday, August 23 as part of the Live in Somerset bank holiday concert series.

The band was formed in 1962 and secured their participation in the event’s line-up earlier this year, in February.

In a conversation with The Mirror in June, Francis Rossi, the sole continuous member of Status Quo, said: "I don’t think we will go again.

"And as far as the rest of the band are concerned it’s the last tour too. I just can’t see us doing it one more time.

"I didn’t want to put this current tour out, saying it’s the last one ever. I did it once and was then coerced into coming back, but that’s a whole other f****** story.

"Who knows, they might offer a huge amount of money to do the Quo again, but I don’t think so.

"I am hesitant to call it the last ever but I just can’t see it continuing, to be honest."

Rossi cited the gruelling nature of touring as a reason for the decision.

The Status Quo co-founder plans to embark on a smaller 34-date solo tour, in which he will perform signature hits and tell tales from his career.

Status Quo originated in London, with Rossi and Alan Lancaster founding the band when still schoolboys.

The band broke up in 1984, but played Live Aid the next year and resumed normal activities in 1986.

The Live in Somerset bank holiday concerts will also feature pop band JLS on Saturday, Ministry of Sound Classical on Sunday and Busted on Monday.
