A WOMAN from Somerset raised over £500 on her own in a Global ‘6k Walk for Water’, which is a campaign started by an international Organisation called World Vision.

Hannah’s-aim is to walk 6K a day, for a week, to help bring clean water to vulnerable children and communities through her fundraising page online.

Six kilometers is the average distance children, often girls, walk daily to fetch water for their communities.

Hannah was born in Somerset but currently lives ‘off-grid’ in Chiselborough. She depends on harvested rainwater as her main water supply and uses a compost toilet as part of her daily life.

Hannah said: “As an individual living off-grid, I have found a heightened awareness of water scarcity, particularly during relative droughts.

“However, I am aware that our lifestyle has been a choice and one that kindly neighbours and family have rescued us from, with water donations at times!”

At a local church flower festival, Hannah was asked to contribute something that related to the theme of water.

She said: “Connecting with the notion of readily available water, I found World Vision online and created a display to align with their campaign.”

According to WaterAid, around 703 million people in the world don’t have clean water close to home.

World Vision is the largest non-governmental provider of clean water in the world. Each year the Global 6K Walk for Water is an opportunity to unite people together for a common cause.

The Walk for Water campaign helped raise £2500 this past month with Hannah being a huge part of that.

In 2023, the average household water usage per person per day in England and Wales was 140 litres.

One dedicated supporter of World Vision and its campaign is Rebecca Oburotha from Milton Keynes, who has raised over £550 and counting during her time working with World Vision.

Rebecca said: “The achievement isn’t about the distance covered or the money raised; it’s about making a difference.

“I had always walked between 2km to 4kn every other day, but I decided to take on the challenge and stretch my usual target.

“I’m proud to have raised over £500 for World Vision UK, an organisation dedicated to transforming the lives of children and communities across the world.”
