THE planters on St James Street in Taunton, part of the independent quarter, have been spruced up by the town council.
The planters, which sit opposite the former Debenham's building, are now under the management of Taunton Town Council.
This follow's Somerset Council's declaration of a financial emergency, which has seen town councils assume greater responsibilities this year.
A council spokesperson said: "Taunton Town Council recently took over the management and maintenance of the planters on St James Street, part of Taunton Independent Quarter.
"They have been overhauled and refreshed, and we think that they are looking great and much more fitting for this vibrant part of town."
Taunton Independent Quarter also includes the Courtyard, Riverside Place and Middle Street. St James Street has been pedestrianised since May 2019.
A spokesperson for the independent quarter said: "The St James Street Planters have been given some new life!
"Thank you Taunton Town Council for taking management and maintenance of the planters from Somerset Council."
Businesses based in the quarter include Michelin-starred restaurant Augustus, gift shop Rocket and Bird and World of Bears.
Koottaan, a restaurant offering authentic Kerala cuisine from southern India, is set to open there soon.
