WITH such a variety of food stalls at this year’s Taunton Flower Show you might feel spoilt for choice for what to eat, along with a huge amount of food options, an award-winning scotch egg has found its way into the mix.

Set up in 2014, Surf’n’Turf Kitchen is one of the food stalls at the Taunton Flower Show this year, selling a variety of “rustic and homely” scotch eggs and pies.

Starting in Teignmouth, South Devon, owner Aaron Robinson started his business from a “small flat” sourcing his ingredients from the local shop whilst providing his local pub with his scotch egg creations.

Aaron felt a need for something different in the food industry which helped him come up with the idea for the business.

“The goal was Abbfest, a popular local beer festival, and I aimed to make enough products to run a small stall.

“A scotch egg is a pint’s best friend, so it was a match made in devon heaven,” said Aaron.

Nowadays, things are a bit different all thanks to the success of Aaron’s special scotch eggs.

Aaron’s Eggs won gold in the Food/Drink Devon awards in 19/20, and they've won multiple Taste of the West awards including a gold award in 2020, as well as champion ready meal in 2021, and champion snack/light eat in 2022.

Aaron said: “All meat is sourced locally from numerous farms throughout Devon, with the majority sourced from the multi-award-winning ‘The Butchers at Darts Farm’, who pride themselves on producing high welfare pork.

“Our free-range eggs are sourced locally, and we have an open kitchen deli set up at Cockington, which is where we focus on creating, making, and selling our new individual pies and award-winning scotch eggs.”

Surf'n'Turf kitchen were in Taunton today and will also be at the flower show for its second day, Saturday August 3.

This year the luxury scotch egg is available at the price of £5 at Vivary Park, and there's a wide selection of flavours available, including the award-winning flavour, red onion and chutney.

Aaron said: “I’ve been non-stop making scotch eggs, when I wake up it’s the first thing on my mind. It will be nice to have a break after the flower show which I hope goes well.

“If you come down (to the Taunton Flower Show) you must try the red onion and chutney flavoured scotch egg.

“It’s the best.”
