FIREFIGHTERS have rescued a person who became trapped in an overturned car after a collision near Taunton.

The Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service was called to the scene at 6.40pm yesterday (Friday, August 2) by paramedics.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police were also at the scene.

Firefighters put the overturned vehicle back on its wheels before the person who had been trapped was left in the care of the paramedics.

A Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue spokesperson said: “Two fire appliances from Taunton were mobilised to Thurlbear Road, Orchard Portman, following a call from ambulance requesting our assistance to a two-car RTC (road traffic collision), where one of the cars had rolled into the other, trapping the driver.

“On arrival crews confirmed one vehicle was on all four wheels and all the occupants were safely free and clear, with the second vehicle on its side and one person trapped.

“They quickly got to work stabilising the vehicle before extricating the casualty, working alongside paramedics.

“Once released they were left in the hands of the paramedics being checked over.

“The incident was brought under control at 7.26pm and after crews made both the vehicles and scene safe, duty of care was left with ambulance and police.”
