ST Margaret's Hospice Care is urging Somerset families to join its Sunflower Stroll events this year.
Now in their fourth year, the Sunflower Strolls are set to take place at Aldon Fields in Yeovil and Longrun Meadow in Taunton on September 1 and September 15 respectively, offering a scenic 4km walk.
Participants can purchase tickets, starting at £5, which come with a sunflower dedication marker for the hospice garden and a bib for the walk.
There are also options to purchase prosecco or cream tea to enjoy in the hospice gardens after the walk.
St Margaret's has said anyone who raises or donates £65 or more will receive a sunflower badge to wear on the stroll.
Proceeds from the event will go towards the hospice's Sunflower Centres, which provide necessary support to Somerset residents with life-limiting illnesses.
Jan Rimmer, a visitor of the Sunflower Centre, has shared her experience of the services on offer and how it helped her.
She was initially apprehensive about visiting and said: "But it was all very gentle.
"At St Margaret’s you’re welcomed with open arms. Everyone is friendly; staff, patients and everybody else.
"The physiotherapy sessions which they offer have really helped and Laura has been wonderful with her massages, particularly with my feet.
"Then, of course, Bridget rushes around doing her arts and crafts, she does little quizzes and other activities with us which are fun.
"We talk about all sorts of things with the staff.
"I really like the fact that they cover both the practical, spiritual support and complementary therapies.
"It makes me feel more confident and more prepared, something I wouldn’t have done on my own."
The Sunflower Day Centres provide specific support and advice to patients with life-limiting illnesses who can live at home but require the hospice's help.
The centres also offer a chance for patients to connect with others in similar situations and take part in activities that enhance their confidence and independence.
