A housebuilder is offering free 'explorer packs' for children this summer as part of a nationwide drive to encourage outdoor play.
Redrow South West's packs are available for a limited period at the Woodborough Grange development, located on Woodborough Road in Winscombe.
The packs include mini magnifying glasses, design-your-own binoculars, mini bug catcher nets, bug stickers, crayons, and seeded paper for growing plants.
The initiative is in response to an annual report by the housebuilder which showed that 72% of grandparents and 66% of parents in the south west believe children are spending less time outside than they did growing up.
The survey of 2,000 UK adults also found that 51% of parents across the region admit their child cannot play outdoors independently due to a lack of safe routes to open spaces.
62% of parents and grandparents said their young ones prefer indoor or screen-based activities to playing outside.
Sain Smith, sales director for Redrow South West, said: "Here at Redrow South West, all of our developments are thoughtfully designed to be as play-friendly as possible, with wider streets and cul-de-sacs."
Set in the surroundings of Somerset's Mendip Hills, the Woodborough Grange development is 14 miles from Bristol and within reach of state and independent schools.
