A TAUNTON woman has been charged with theft after a police crackdown on anti-social behaviour in Bridgwater.

Elizabeth Goodchild, 45, was found in possession of stolen property in Bridgwater town centre.

She was also arrested for an outstanding theft offence.

Avon and Somerset Police also charged Kevin Meggs, 43, of no fixed address after a street drinking offence in Bridgwater.

Both offenders are awaiting sentencing.

A police spokesperson said: “Following a targeted day of action tackling anti-social behaviour in Bridgwater, we’ve charged a woman with theft.

“On Friday 26 July, officers arrested Elizabeth Goodchild, 45, of Taunton, after she was found in possession of stolen property in Bridgwater town centre.

“She was also arrested for an outstanding theft offence. She was charged and pleaded guilty to both thefts.

“The following week, officers arrested a man for a Section 4 Public Order offence in relation to street drinking in Bridgwater.

“Kevin Meggs, 43, of no fixed address, was charged following the incident on Fore Street, Bridgwater, on Wednesday, July 31.

“Both offenders are awaiting sentencing.”

Inspector Sarah Knight said: “Cracking down on shop theft and anti-social behaviour continues to be a key priority for our neighbourhood teams in Bridgwater.

“These results come alongside continued community engagement with members of the public.

“Thanks to the concerns you've raised, we can make use of anti-social behaviour legislation such as Section 35 dispersal notices to deter offenders.”
