Marie Curie needs people to help place, collect and manage charity boxes and tins in businesses and organisations around Chard and Ilminster.

A few hours of time a week/month to distribute and collect donation boxes and count donations, volunteers will help the charity raise funds, meaning people will continue to receive care and support.

In Somerset, Marie Curie provides expert care to people in the comfort of their own home. The charity also provides free information and support and campaigns for a better end of life for all.

Hannah Drury, Marie Curie community fundraiser for Bristol, Bath and Somerset said: “In Somerset, we urgently need volunteers to help with our charity boxes and give more people the opportunity to donate.  Each box raises an average of £26 – which is more than enough for us to provide an hour of vital nursing care for someone living with an illness they’re likely to die from. The role is flexible, fulfilling and gives volunteers an opportunity to get out into the local community and make a difference. We will support you along the way, and together we can help provide better end of life care for everyone in Somerset.”

"Last year Marie Curie provided care to more than 44,000 people across the UK via hospices, as well as through nursing visits to people’s own homes day and night.

"In Somerset Marie Curie also provide companions who provide the emotional and practical support you want – at home, in hospital or over the phone.

"Marie Curie provides Information and Support Services for anyone to access the support they need. The charity’s free support line and webchat is available to anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from and those close to them. It offers practical and emotional support on everything from symptom management and day-to-day care to financial information and bereavement support.”

Over the next five years Marie Curie aims to double the number of people across the UK being cared for and supported in homes, its hospices and through its free information and support services.
