Wiveliscombe Literary festival returns this September with considerable speakers, discussions and workshops for all to enjoy, taking place on Friday and Saturday, September 6 and 7.

Alley Kennen will start the festival on the Friday, presenting a workshop on Starting That Novel. Alley is best known for her novels aimed at children and young adults.

Following Alley is Catherine Hanley, a medieval historian, who is set to discuss The King of England You’ve Never Heard Of.

The remainder of the festival will take place on the Saturday, starting with Judy Leigh at 10:00am. Judy’s work focuses mainly on the lives of older women, writing multiple books and selling over half a million copies.

Justin Adams will follow with discussions on his book The Unexpected Mourner. The book details a story spanning three generations, with a heart tugging secret revealed at a funeral.

Michelle Werrett will discuss Songs of the Streams. This book details Claude Wade’s fishing tales from his 1903 book Exmoor Streams. Michelle sets out to fish these same waters and compare the two based on changes over the last century, discussing the difference in streams, fish and more.

Local author Rod McRiven will present his book Ticktock, a semi-autobiographical novel, and Ovular Curios, a book of narrative verse.

Lionel Ward, another local author, will be discussing his book The Shakespeare Thief and Roman Holiday: The Elliot Todd mysteries

Ben Mears, who has written a range of book from fantasy to young adults’ books, will be presenting It’s all a mystery to me, and Steve Cole is set to deliver a masterclass in Adventures in Storytelling.

Adam Garland, who is a local author, musician and illustrator, will be interviewing Gavin James Bower. They will discuss the bond and collaboration between author and illustrator.

Concluding the festival is An evening with William Sitwell at 6:30pm on the Saturday. William will discuss his career and work, answering questions from any attendees.
