A 22-YEAR-OLD from Somerset has channelled his love for technology and helping others into starting his own business.

Mitchel Wilson, from Evercreech, said that although 'scary' at first, founding his IT support and repair business Emmitech Services has 'fulfilled his passion'.

"The idea of getting initially started was quite scary - being quite young as well, it’s not really something you think of doing," he said.

Mitchel - who runs the business alongside his partner Emma Lane - feels Emmitech's honesty and pricing sets it apart from other IT support services, some of which he says are known to prey upon the vulnerable.

"There are a lot of tech companies out there which charge extortionate amounts, especially to the older demographic and vulnerable people," Mitchel said.

"I created the business to fulfil my passion, but also to give people a fair rate for their tech repairs and advice.

“We are honest about the repairs – if it’s not worth repairing due to the age or price, we will tell you honestly.

“We would rather the customer benefit from our advice, than to unnecessarily push for a repair.

"I love helping people - if I can help them with their computer problems while giving them a rate they deserve, that’s what I want to keep doing.”

And that's exactly what Mitchel has done since founding Emmitech earlier this year.

The business has rapidly grown in popularity among residents in the Mendip area, offering a free drop-off and pick-up service for any repairs, as well as remote, online advice, tech lessons, and free home visits.

“I don’t see the problem for charging for visiting, I don’t want to include the charge for that due to the cost of living crisis," Mitchel said.

“We love meeting new customers, and especially having a cup of tea or coffee with those who may be more isolated."

As well as preparing to welcome their baby into the world later this year, Mitchel and Emma are planning to expand Emmitech by increasing their offering of online and in-person lessons, to help those who need assistance getting to grips with ever-changing modern technology.

In addition to this, plans are in place for Emmitech to donate fully-functional computers to those in need, created from donated parts.

“If you have a passion for something and you really want to turn it into a business, you shouldn’t let the idea of it scare you, you should just go for it," Mitchel concluded.
