TAYLOR Wimpey Exeter has supported Breastfeeding Together Taunton with a £250 donation to mark World Breastfeeding Week.

The housebuilder's contribution forms part of its commitment to giving back to the community surrounding its Taunton development, Orchard Grove.

It will help cover the cost of wrap slings for the group to lend to breastfeeding mothers, as well as toys and refreshments.

Breastfeeding Together Taunton has been aiding families in and around Taunton for 20 years.

Run by volunteers at St Mary Magdalene’s Church, many of whom work in the maternity unit at Musgrove Park Hospital, the group provides a welcoming environment to support mothers with their breastfeeding journeys.

Tammy Iredale from Breastfeeding Together Taunton said: "We offer support to everyone from pregnancy well into toddlerhood.

"Mothers often attend with their tiny newborns and make friends for life at the group.

"Many mothers have said we are a lifeline in those early months; breastfeeding can be challenging but with the right support it’s achievable and probably one of the most rewarding things you will do as a mother."

World Breastfeeding Week, supported by the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, and various Ministries of Health, runs from August 1 to August 7 each year.

The 2024 theme, closing the gap, focuses on ensuring that breastfeeding support is universally accessible.

"It is great to know that our donation has been put towards equipment that will not only help mothers in Taunton with very young children but also give Breastfeeding Together Taunton one less thing to fundraise for to keep their essential support group running."

The donation will be used to purchase new equipment, including stretchy wrap slings, to support feeding and bonding in those early months.

Breastfeeding Together Taunton meets every Thursday from 10am to 12pm in the upstairs rooms of St Mary Magdalene’s Church in Taunton.

The group welcomes anyone looking to meet new friends or in need of breastfeeding support.
