Richard Huish College students are celebrating "the best" Level 3 Vocational and A Level results for "many, many years" thanks to "tremendous hard work and determination".
Principal, Emma Fielding, said: “Today’s results are absolutely stunning and the best for many, many years.
"I am so proud of our students, not just for their amazing academic achievements, but for the contributions they have made to our college community through their curiosity, dedication, and huge sense of fun”.
The overall A Level pass rate at Huish is 99%, with 81% of students gaining A*- C grades.
An impressive 57% achieved high grades of A*-B, 4% above the national average. A Level students did well across a wide range of courses, with 81 achieving three or more A*/A grades, and 95 achieving three or more A*/A grades at A Level and AS Level.
Results for students studying Vocational Extended Diplomas were exceptional, with nearly 82% achieving at least one Distinction grade in their profile. 26 achieved the very top results of triple Distinction*.
Students on a mix of A Level and Vocational courses also performed strongly with 67% of them achieving a Distinction or Distinction* in the vocational elements of their Study Programme.
The College is also delighted to celebrate its first cohort of Criminologists in 2024, with an outstanding 85% of students taking this A Level equivalent qualification achieving A*- C.
Alongside celebrating terrific results, Huish said it was proud of the wide and interesting range of destinations its students are progressing to, from Diagnostic Radiography, Technical Theatre Arts and Pharmacology, to Naval Architecture and Horology.
Emma shared: “We are excited to be celebrating a number of students successfully securing degree apprenticeships in areas such as the RAF, Police and Finance. These apprenticeships come with good salaries, funded degrees and excellent career progression.
“We are very proud of the successes in Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Science this year with an amazing 10 students gaining places to study Medicine, two students set to study Dentistry, and one ready to study Veterinary Science”.
Amongst the many exceptional outcomes being celebrated this year were:
- Gabriella Jenkins (The Castle School) achieved 5 A*s and is going to Cambridge to study Medicine.
- Alex Bulloso (Pyrland School) achieved 5 A*s and is heading to Cambridge to read Medicine.
- Elena Spurgeon (Haygrove School) achieved 4 A*s and is going to Bath University to study Economics.
- Megan Owen (Robert Blake School) achieved 4 A*s and goes to Cambridge to study Geography.
- Nathaniel Boyne (The Castle School) achieved 4 A*s and has secured a place at Warwick to study Mathematics.
- Jack Lancaster (West Somerset College) applied in his gap year and now goes on to read Law at Oxford University.
- Alex Atherton achieved D*D*D* in BTEC Uniformed Protective Services, alongside their amazing equestrian successes, and plans to study Criminology at Leicester University in 2025.
- Kacey Middleton (Court Field School) and Alanna Doyle (West Somerset College) both achieved triple D* in BTEC Business, Marketing and Management and have secured places to read Business Management at Exeter University.
- Rosie Russell (Bishop Fox’s School) also achieved D*D*D* in Business, Marketing and Management and earned a place on a prestigious accountancy apprenticeship with PKF Francis Clark
- Evelyn Welsh Morris (Holyrood Academy) achieved D*D*D* in Applied Science and is going to read Zoology at Exeter University.
- Joshua Naish (Pyrland) is set to study Film Production at Portsmouth University after achieving D*D*D* in Media Production.
- Jamie Price (The Castle School) achieved D*D*D* and is progressing on to study Cyber Security at Warwick University.
Emma Fielding added: “Huge congratulations to our amazing students who have embraced the ethos and culture of the college to aim high, we are in awe of your achievements!
"Student achievements start with the efforts of our partner schools and are consolidated by the exceptional dedication, passion and professionalism of our phenomenal Huish staff, who day in day out give their all to enable students to blossom and succeed.
