A BANK in Taunton town centre will close temporarily for almost three months due to “a major refurbishment”.

The Barclays Bank branch on North Street will close from Friday, September 20, to Monday, December 16.

During the closure, the nearest branches will be in Yeovil and Weston-super-Mare, but a spokesperson for Barclays said “customers requiring in-person banking support during this time, we plan to open a Barclays Local in the area”.

The spokesperson also said: “We can confirm the Barclays branch at 46 North Street, Taunton, will close from Friday, September 20 at noon and re-open on Monday, December 16 at 9.30am, while we undertake a major refurbishment of the premises.

“For customers requiring in-person banking support during this time, we plan to open a Barclays Local in the area.

“Barclays Local is a cashless banking alternative where customers can meet a colleague face-to-face for a variety of support, as they would in a branch and without the need to travel.

“In addition, everyday banking transactions can be completed at any Post Office, with the nearest located at WH Smith, 47-50 Fore Street, Taunton.

“This includes Barclays business customers, who can pay in up to £10,000 per day, withdraw cash, as well as exchange coin.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers while the works are being undertaken.

“We would urge any customer who has concerns about their banking requirements while we are temporarily closed to talk to the branch staff at Taunton, who will be happy to help.”
