A POPULAR pub in Somerset has just reopened with new changes and planned events.
The Highwayman, which is under new ownership and located on the A37 and outskirts of Shepton Mallet, started re-welcoming guests on Tuesday, August 27.
The reopening of the popular pub and hotel sees Mel and Simon Ricketts return to the pub they managed previously while the leasehold has been taken on by Imran Ali who recently bought the Well Inn that’s located next door.
Mel and Simon are now putting together the final touches that will place the Highwayman as a “traditional pub” and accommodation that offers a warm welcome, relaxed friendly atmosphere and good food and drink.
Mel said: “It’s great news that The Highwayman is back open. It was always incredibly popular with both locals and those passing on the A37 and we can’t wait to get the doors open.
“We want the pub to become a real hub for the local community where guests can drop in any time to enjoy a drink, bite to eat and catch up with friends.
“At a time when you read about pubs shutting up and down the country, to buck that trend is great news for Shepton and we’re looking forward to welcoming guests both old and new.”
With the centre of Shepton less than a mile away, the pub provides plenty of off-street parking and enjoys views out across the Mendip Hills in Somerset.
It will also serve a range of local ales and ciders adding to its local appeal.
Mel added: “This is such exciting news.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to return to a venue that has so many fabulous memories and is close to our hearts. We haven’t stopped smiling once we heard it was to reopen with us in charge.
“We’re also putting in place a programme of events that will truly make The Highwayman a real focus for the community.
“We also want to hear from any local clubs or societies that are looking for a venue to host things such as meetings or presentation nights and we’ll be more than happy to help.”
