A SERIES of recitals will take place to celebrate 203 years since Taunton's Assembly Rooms hosted Franz Liszt during his second concert tour of Britain.
The Hungarian virtuoso pianist, conductor, and teacher was a significant figure of the Romantic period, boasting a highly influential repertoire that remains popular today.
Now his historic visit to Somerset will be celebrated, starting on September 8 in St John's Church at 3pm.
Pianist Michael Montavont will perform at the inaugural recital, showcasing some of the widely acclaimed Lieder by Schubert and Chopin, as well as Années de pèlerinage by Liszt and Sonata in A flat by Beethoven.
Following the performance, attendees will be treated to tea and cakes.
While there is no charge for entry, organisers have prepared a retiring collection to help cover the costs of the event.
The series will then continue with a second recital due to be carried out by leading French pianist, Patrick Hemerle, on September 27.
Further recitals are planned for next year.
