A GARAGE in High Ham has been destroyed after a fire broke out in a tumble dryer.

Firefighters from Bridgwater, Street and Somerton responded to the incident at 6.02pm on August 31.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson explained: "Crews were sent to a tumble dryer on fire in a garage and, on arrival, crews confirmed the garage well alight, but confined to the block of garages."

On arrival of further crews, this was increased to 2 breathing apparatus, 2 hose reel jets and 2 main jets.

The response was escalated as additional crews arrived, employing two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and two main jets.

The spokesperson continued: "The fire was extinguished and crews checked for hot spots with a thermal imaging camera.

"The garage where the fire started was completely destroyed in the fire, along with the contents, and the adjoining garages were also damaged.

"The cause was deemed accidental".
