SOMERSET County Cricket Club has partnered with GB NRG to help reduce its carbon footprint and operational costs.
The partnership involves the installation of a solar PV panel system on the roof of the club's Andrew Caddick Pavilion.
The panels have been designed to spell out the club's initials SCCC and will cover a significant portion of its energy needs.
This is particularly beneficial during the summer months when daylight hours are longer and cricket matches are frequent.
Savings on energy bills are expected to be substantial, allowing the club to allocate resources more effectively.
Jamie Cox, CEO of Somerset County Cricket Club, said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with GB NRG.
"By providing the club with this solar panel system, they will enable us to reduce our carbon footprint and to help raise awareness about the benefits of solar energy.
"At a time when we have made a commitment to sustainability, this new partnership will provide the club with both environmental and economic benefits via the use of renewable energy."
GB NRG, founded in 2010, is a leading commercial solar and energy storage installer based in Somerset.
The company has been at the forefront of numerous industrial and commercial solar installations across the UK, helping businesses and communities transition to clean energy.
Jon Antoniou, CEO of GB NRG, said: "We understand the importance of supporting the local community and are thrilled to support Somerset County Cricket Club through the provision of this system.
"Our goal is to make renewable energy accessible and beneficial for all sectors notwithstanding sports.
"This project aligns perfectly with our mission to create sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions and ‘Power the Switch’ to a brighter future."
The partnership serves as a pioneering example for sports clubs nationwide, demonstrating how traditional institutions can embrace modern technology to achieve environmental and economic benefits.
It is hoped that this will inspire other organisations to follow suit.
The Andrew Caddick Pavilion is a central hub for players and support staff at the club.
The installation of the solar PV system on this building not only reduces the club's carbon footprint but also raises awareness about the benefits of solar energy.
As the world increasingly moves towards renewable energy, collaborations like this underscore the importance of community-centric approaches to environmental stewardship.
