St Margaret's Hospice has announced the return of its popular Wear it Yellow campaign for 2024.

The annual event, which runs from Monday, October 7 to Sunday, October 13, aims to turn Somerset into a sea of yellow to mark Hospice Care Week.

St Margaret's is calling on schools, workplaces, and community groups across the county to join in the fun and show their support by wearing yellow.

This year's Hospice Care Week will focus on the incredible work of the retail and fundraising teams who help keep the hospice running.

The charity says hospices are increasingly reliant on fundraising events like Wear it Yellow and its second-hand shops to continue providing end-of-life care.

St Margaret's Hospice said that hospices across the UK are now raising more money from selling second-hand goods than it receives in government funding.

The charity is urging people to wear yellow during the week to help send a message to Westminster that "something has to change".

The campaign encourages people to get creative with their yellow-themed support, whether that means decking out the office in yellow, wearing their brightest yellow clothes, or hosting a lemon-themed bake-off.

Free fundraising packs full of ideas and resources are available from St Margaret's to help people get started.

Kerry Baillie, community partnerships manager at St Margaret's Hospice, said: "We're absolutely buzzing for Wear it Yellow this year.

"We can’t wait to see our community come together to wear yellow, get creative, and turn Somerset yellow in support of hospice care.

"Don’t forget to share your photos on social media using the hashtag #WearItYellow—we want to see Somerset shining bright."

The campaign, sponsored by Yellow Peach, aims to raise £10,000 for the hospice.

Throughout the week, staff and volunteers will take to the streets of Somerset, dressed in yellow, to collect donations and raise awareness about the importance of hospice care.
