THERE are plenty of places to grab a lunchtime burger in Taunton – but few offer better value for money than Hub Box on North Street.

The business, which was rescued in July after it collapsed into administration, has 10 restaurants in the south west of England and Wales.

Each offers an extensive menu with beef, chicken, veggie and vegan burgers, plus plenty of sides, wings and dirty fries.

But I was on the hunt for a cheap and filling lunch, so settled on the £9.95 lunch deal which combines a burger with a handful of fries and a soft drink.

Owing to my pescetarianism, I opted for the halloumi burger and a Diet Coke, but there are also beef, chicken and vegan options.

Punters who are looking for a healthier option can ‘go green’ by swapping their bun for a gem lettuce and ranch salad.

The service was quick and friendly, and I was presented with my meal around 10 minutes after stepping foot into the restaurant – although it was fairly quiet, with only a handful of other diners when I visited early on Wednesday afternoon.

The burger came with three fingers of crispy buttermilk-fried halloumi, shredded lettuce and a tasty burger sauce in a soft bun.

The kitchen was, perhaps, a little stingy with the amount of halloumi (there was definitely room in the bun for an extra wedge), but it's hard to argue with the amount of food that came given it cost less than a tenner.

The fries were hot and had a nice crunch, and I found it to be a good-sized portion considering it was a quick lunch stop.

If you're on the lookout for a working lunch or a bite to eat to break up a shopping trip, you can't go too far wrong with Hub Box.
