A ROAD closure is currently in place near Thurlbear after a collision, police said.

Emergency services are on the scene near 'Thurlbear Straight' and Avon and Somerset Police said the road will be “closed for some time”.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “Please be aware that there are some diversions in place around Thurlbear, locally known as 'Thurlbear Straight' in Taunton due to a road traffic incident.

“The road is due to be closed for some time so if you can avoid the area, please do.

“Emergency services are on the scene and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time.”

Travel Somerset said: "We have reports of a road closure due to a collision at the junction of Shoreditch Road and Staplehill Fitzpaine Road, leading to Thurlbear Road.

"The road is expected to remain closed for several hours."
