FLASH flooding forced Avon and Somerset Police to close a number of roads in Minehead this time last year.
On the morning of Sunday, September 17, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was working to clear flood water from Townsend Road, Ponsford Road, The Avenue, Alcombe Road, King George Road Mark Road and Park Street from the junction of Parkhouse Road in West Somerset.
The police urged people to "please avoid all non-essential travel in West Somerset today. We are experiencing extreme weather conditions and there is flooding in many areas."
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue experienced a "high number of calls" about the flooding as Minehead residents rushed to protect their properties and vehicles.
The fire service asked locals to refrain from calling unless it was a "genuine emergency".
A spokesperson said at the time: "We are experiencing a high number of calls due to flooding across Devon and Somerset.
"We need to keep emergency lines open for genuine emergencies, so please only contact us if there is a risk to life."
