A HISTORICAL pub in Somerset has been named in the Daily Mail's best 100 pubs in Britain list.

Based in Somerset, the Alhampton Inn, known as the Ally, is a pub that’s been around for over 350 years.

Listed via the Daily Mail website, the pub sells a pint for £4.50, with one of the favourites at that price being the Jaipur IPA, by Thornbridge Brewery.

Winner of a Prince of Wales Award 2024 for community initiatives, the locals raised £125,000 to save it in 2022, and it’s thriving once more.

Well-known as a “very dog-friendly pub”, the Alhampton Inn only asks that you keep your furry friends on a lead.

The pub is currently only serving drinks but there are plans to have pop-up Sunday roasts throughout the Autumn season.

Other pubs that made the top 100 list from the southwest include the Crossways Inn in West Huntspill, The Square & Compass in Worth Matravers, Dorset, and The Masons Arms, Branscombe, Devon.

Speaking after the pub was awarded the Prince of Wales award for this year, a representative spokesperson for The Alhampton Community Pub Limited said: “We’re truly grateful for this recognition from the Bath & West Society, the Duchy of Cornwall and, of course, HRH the Prince of Wales.

“Motivation is our fuel, and while that comes from having the pub back open, the award is a tremendous fillip for all of us involved with the Alhampton Inn”.

You can find the Alhampton Inn in Alhampton, West Lane, BA4 6PY.
