A NEW place to grab a coffee, a pasty or a cake has arrived in Taunton officially opening today.
The Cornish Bakery, a company first started in Mevagissey, opened for the first time today (October 1) in a ribbon-cut event held by the mayor of Taunton, Vanessa Garside.
Speaking in a video posted online via Facebook, cllr Garside said: “This will be a great place to come and enjoy coffee and pastries.
“We are really lucky to have this business and now it is officially open.”
The new Cornish Bakery can seat up to 58 people making it another good spot in the town to sit back and relax.
The bakery comes with many plaudits including a hard-to-please food critic, Giles Coren, who wrote about his discovery of The Cornish Bakery at the Taunton Deane services kiosk.
Giles described the spot as one of the ‘prettiest’ motorway takeaway spots, with ‘perfect’ pasties and the ‘best-ever’ sausage rolls.
The bakery will sell Cornish Bakery’s range of delicious products including its award-winning pasties and sausage rolls, both lauded by Coren.
Additionally, it will sell its daily crafted and baked viennoiseries, cakes, and bakes alongside recently introduced runaway success options such as a Pistachio Croissant and a Salted Caramel Roll.
Noted as a “fantastic addition” to Taunton’s High Street by many people online, the Cornish Bakery will be open every day from 8am-5pm.
Cornish Bakery founder and owner, Steve Grocutt, said: “We are delighted to open our newest Cornish Bakery, our 62nd nonetheless, in Taunton.
“This is a strong Westcountry destination with a thriving retail landscape and ‘high street.
“We are very pleased to be bringing our unique philosophy and our values-driven culture to this key Somerset town.”
The new Cornish Bakery can be found at 7 Fore Street, Taunton.
Given the company’s Cornish heritage, they always use new bakery opportunities to support committed artisan makers and designers, showcasing the products and artworks of their home county's talented creatives.
Steve added: “We believe a bakery should be part of the community.”
