MORE than 430 runners geared up for this year's Taunton 10km run which happened on Sunday.

The threatened rain didn’t materialise when the run commenced on September 29, and the runners got underway in blustery conditions at 11am.

The 6.2-mile course, which started and finished at Blackbrook Leisure Centre, took them around Holway before heading out to Stoke St Mary and back via Haydon.

In its 37th year, the race is very much a local one with two-thirds of the runners coming from the Taunton area.

Taunton AC and Running Forever RC both fielded large contingents.

Dillon Millard (Taunton AC) was the fastest home with a time of 32 minutes and 43 seconds, making it a hat trick of wins – each quicker than the last.

Dillon also picked up the Under 20 Men’s award on Sunday.

Heading an impressive Taunton AC trio in the ladies’ event Kirstie Booth crossed the line at 37 minutes and 20 seconds, followed by Nicole Avery at 39 minutes and 17 seconds, and Jenny Coxon who finished with a respectable 40 minutes and 26 seconds.

The race was organised by the Taunton Carnival Committee and hosted by Everyone Active - with all money raised from the event going towards the town’s Carnival Procession on 19 October.

Chairman Callum Perrin said it "had been another successful event".

He said: “Entries were sold out well before the closing date and the turnout on the day was wonderful.

"We were lucky with the weather. Everyone had a great morning. Runners have been very supportive and positive with their comments.

"It’s a success because of the way all the volunteers come together to make it happen. Without them we couldn’t do it.”
