A special ceremony took place to mark the opening of a new nursery class in North Curry.

The Bishop of Bath and Wells, Michael Beasley, opened the Little Herons Nursery, located at North Curry C of E Primary School.

It has recently undergone a £100,000 renovation of its indoor and outdoor spaces.

As a result, it is now open all year round and will soon welcome babies from six months.

(Image: North Curry C of E Primary School) Mr Beasley, the honourable guest, who played a key role in the 2023 coronation as one of the two bishops assistants to King Charles II, took a tour of the school and nursery.

He met with the children and teachers and delivered a speech to officially launch Little Herons Nursery.

This was followed by a prayer and blessing.

He said: "This is an extraordinary achievement to have such a wonderful space and opportunity for the nursery provision here at this school."

Mr Beasley also shared some advice he had received: "If you had a pound to spend anywhere, the best value for your pound you could ever get would be to spend it on early childhood provision."

"We are very proud of our school and nursery, and it was lovely to be able to give him a tour and meet the children."

Little Herons Nursery is part of the Richard Huish Trust and is overseen by director of nurseries, Heidi Screech.

Ms Screech said: "It is so important to invest in our Early Years provision.

"Little Herons Nursery is a fantastic setting in rural North Curry, and we are delighted to be able to offer all-year-round childcare to the local and wider community."

Little Herons Nursery is now accepting applications for nursery places.
