A MAN who was caught breaking a temporary speed limit on the A303 in Somerset was given a two-week driving ban by magistrates.

Audi driver Kurt Nicholas Duddridge, of Kendale Road, Bridgwater, was clocked at 53mph as he drove eastbound between the Podimore Roundabout and the Hazelgrove Roundabout on December 6, 2023.

A 30mph speed limit is in place on that stretch of the A303 as work progresses on a major dualling scheme between Sparkford and Ilchester.

Work is ongoing to create a dual carriageway on a three-mile stretch of the A303.Work is ongoing to create a dual carriageway on a three-mile stretch of the A303.

In 2023, two speed cameras placed between the roundabouts detected a total of 16,232 offences, making them Somerset's most prolific.

Duddridge, 33, appeared before magistrates in Worle on September 11 after pleading guilty under the single justice procedure in July.

He was fined £460 and ordered to pay a £184 surcharge to fund victim services and court costs of £90.

He was given until October 9 to pay his £734 court bill.

The magistrates also banned him from holding a driving licence for 14 days.

This was a discretionary disqualification, meaning the court chose to disqualify him instead of imposing penalty points.

Duddridge's guilty plea was taken into account when he was sentenced.
