A SOMERSET-BORN Olympic rower visited her local rowing club last week - which saw her get involved in rowing with the team.

Becky Wilde, born in Taunton, was chosen to represent Team GB earlier this year, in what would be her first-ever appearance at an Olympic Games.

Becky, 26, won bronze at this year's Paris Olympics 2024, with her double skulls partner, Mathilda Hodgkins-Bryne.

Arriving at French Weir Park last week (October 6), the Olympic rower shared her rowing skills with Taunton Rowing Club members on Sunday morning.

Rowing on the River Tone, Becky was joined by Taunton Rowing Club members in a coxed quad from French Weir Park down to Firepool.

Becky also posed for selfies and chatted to everyone about her life as an elite sportswoman.

"Our younger members, in particular, were inspired by her rowing ability and thrilled to meet an Olympic medallist.”

Holding the silver medal position for most of the race, the duo representing Team GB fell just short of second place to Romania but did well to beat out the Netherlands for a spot on the podium.

Of the 23 women and 19 men who went to Paris for this year's games, 50% of them were making their debut Olympic appearance.

Becky will be optimistic after her impressive Olympic debut in training as she looks towards future rowing competitions.

After the race, Wilde said: “I had the support of so many great people behind me. I have learnt so much and I know if I do my job, she (Mathilda) will get me over the line.

“It will take a long time to sink in, it was amazing. It is so many years of hard work as I have always dreamed of coming here to the Olympics.”
