Parkinson's UK's Taunton and Mid Somerset branch has issued an appeal for volunteers.
The charity is seeking help to run the day-to-day operations of the branch, such as organising activities, managing the group’s finances, and supporting the monthly group meetings.
It runs a monthly drop-in, working-age meeting, and monthly meetings, all of which provide support to people living with Parkinson’s and their loved ones.
They are looking for a treasurer and committee members to fill flexible roles that make a big impact.
The volunteers will ensure that people with Parkinson’s in the area can access activities that make a real difference to them.
Claire Denby, local volunteer officer at Parkinson’s UK, said: "Local group activities are crucial for people with Parkinson’s, but we need more volunteers to continue offering support.
"These essential programs are at risk without the generosity of more volunteers.
"If you have a few hours to spare each month, consider joining our incredible team to help change lives.
"Volunteering not only impacts those with Parkinson’s but also provides you with new experiences and the chance to meet new people."
The charity also noted that there are 6,588 people in Somerset alone diagnosed with Parkinson’s, with 153,000 across the UK.
The Taunton and Mid Somerset branch regularly meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month between 11 am and 3 pm in Cheddon Fitzpaine, Rowford, Taunton TA2 8JY.
Tea, coffee, and biscuits are available from 11 am, and the meeting includes a 'flexercise' session, which can help improve balance, strength, and joint mobility for people with Parkinson’s.
The Bridgwater drop-in takes place on the fourth Friday of each month, with the next session on Friday, October 25, from 10 am to 12 pm at Westfield Church, West Street, Bridgwater, TA6 7EU.
The branch meeting is held on the fourth Tuesday of the month, with the next on Tuesday, October 22, from 11 am to 3 pm at Cheddon Fitzpaine Memorial Hall, TA2 8JY.
