AMANDA Holden got a helping hand from Pronto Bikes in Frome on Wednesday morning as they provided her with "gel padded" cycling leggings for her ride — a "year's supply" of cakes was also gifted by Parson's Bakery.
The Heart radio presenter set off from Frome's Cheese and Grain for day three of her 250-mile charity bike ride for Global’s Make Some Noise at 9am on October 9.
Speaking on Heart Radio, Amanda said: "I am all geared up, I have a fresh pair of gel trousers on today.
"This very lovely lady [Kate Hoy] from the Pronto Bikes shop in Frome gave them to me, they are dry, padded, and they actually fit.
"They're not made for a ten-year-old child. They're made for a woman that's developing rugby thighs from all this cycling so I'm so happy to be in them. She cycled to me yesterday, and thrust them at me saying 'You're going to need these'.
"The local bakery here as well, Parsons Bakery [located at 5 Badcox, Frome] has given me cakes to last the rest of the year, it's amazing."
Amanda added: "The only way out of Frome is up the most ridiculous hill."
Kate Hoy, who owns Pronto Bikes with her husband Justin, said: "She was lovely, we gave her some Castelli Cycling kit from the shop.
"Hopefully she will raise lots of money but it will also help promote women’s cycling. Considering she’s not a cyclist she is amazing."
Heart Breakfast’s Amanda Holden will cycle a lengthy 250 miles from Bude, Cornwall to London in a bid to raise funds for Global’s Make Some Noise.
On Wednesday Amanda peddled her way from Frome to Newbery, Berkshire, a 55-mile, eight-hour journey. This took her past the halfway point of her journey.
‘Amanda Holden’s Big Ride To Work’ will see Amanda cycle from Bude, Cornwall, to the Heart studios in Leicester Square over the course of five days, clocking up a gruelling eight hours of cycling a day and covering over 250 miles.
Pronto Bikes posted to Facebook: "@katehoy78 was very lucky to be able to join @noholdenback for part of her epic journey raising money for @globals_make_some_noise with @thisisheart.
"Both rocking the @castellicycling gear. Good luck with the rest of your journey Amanda and we hope to see you on a bike again soon."
On Wednesday morning, as Amanda prepared to set off on day three of her Big Ride to Work Challenge for Heart’s official charity, Global’s Make Some Noise, she was left holding back tears as she was surprised on air by Pippa – the midwife her ‘who saved her life’ during the difficult birth of her daughter Holly, now 12.
Amanda explained on air: "Oh, well, for anyone that doesn't know Pippa, I met Pippa years ago when I was making a documentary about Midwifery, and we became friends from that.
"But thereafter, she supported me through my very sad stillbirth that I had with my beautiful son, Theo. And she's basically been there for the whole thing. And then when I had Holly, that birth wasn't an easy one either. And she basically saved my life during the birth of my little girl, Holly, who is now 12.
"So yeah, and she's a friend for life. And honestly, anytime I've got an emergency or anything that happens to one of the girls or me, Pippa is always the first person I call – she is like the light, the strength. She's a good laugh. She can drink me under the table! There's a million other reasons I love her, but yeah, primarily she's just, she's just got the answer to everything. Always. She's brilliant. I love her. I love you!”
Pippa responded: "Oh, I know you've got this, Amanda. You have. You are amazing. You'll just get your head down, do the challenge. And you know you're doing so much good for other people, and I know that's what drives you. So, you've got so much resilience. You just get on and make this happen, and I've got every faith you will."
