A new state-of-the-art AI scanner has been unveiled at a Somerset glass company.
Topline Glass and Glazing in Ilton, Somerset's largest supplier of sealed units and glass, welcomed Sarah Dyke, the Liberal Democrat MP for Glastonbury and Somerton, to open the new technology.
The AI scanner, known as the Soft Solution Line Scanner, is set to improve the company's production efficiency by enhancing traditional automated methods for error detection.
Ms Dyke said: "This is a fantastic example of the new frontier for small businesses in Somerset, using AI - not to replace people - but to support and streamline current practices."
She emphasised the importance of supporting businesses in the South West to flourish, especially given the low confidence levels among small business owners in the county.
Jeremy Bartlett, Topline Glass and Glazing director, added: "It was brilliant having Sarah here at the opening of the new scanner.
"It’s really fantastic to have an MP who’s not just interested in business, but genuinely wants to understand the needs of the business community."
The company, which employs 28 people, hopes the new technology will help it thrive and compete in the industry.
The Liberal Democrat manifesto pledged to support businesses in adopting digital technologies.
