A SERIES of photographs and words to highlight farming on Exmoor have been put together in a book that is being launched today (October 16).
The Exmoor Hill Farming Network (EHFN) is celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, and Exmoor is celebrating its 70th of its designation as a National Park. To mark the occasion, the EHFN and the Exmoor Society have teamed up to commission Exmoor Farms: A Year on the Moor.
The book spans a farming year and includes profiles of farms, together with portraits of the people who live and work on them, and accounts of the activities, markets and shows that fill the year. It has been written by Exmoor farmer and writer, Victoria Eveleigh with photographs by Eleanor Davis.
There will be a launch of the book in the Auction Ring at Cutcombe Market on Exmoor today (Wednesday, October 16).
The EHFN is an independent farmer led farm support network and one of 56 coordinated by The Royal Countryside Fund. Over its 10 years the network is working to date with 453 farming businesses to protect hill farming and the Exmoor way of life.
As well as the book launch, on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20, White Rock Cottage in Simonsbath will display the photographs taken by Eleanor Davis that are featured in the book.
This exhibition is a record of Eleanor’s work over the past year during which she visited over 60 farms, portraying Exmoor’s landscapes, farmsteads and the working lives of the farming community.
Victoria and Eleanor will also be signing books on the Saturday from 11am until 1pm.
