TAUNTON’s Monkton Elm Garden Centre has been the place to go for an impromptu Sunday Roast for decades, with its “famous” Yorkshire puddings putting them on the map.
Cara Maccallum-Hills, from Monkton Elm’s The Elm Tree Restaurant, said: “We have been running our Sunday Roasts for decades. Our current roasts [£14.50] are delicious slow-roasted meats, roasted overnight, and we have fabulous vegetarian options - including Butternut Squash, Brie and Beetroot Tart [£14]. We’re famous for our Yorkshire puddings.”
“The Elm Tree is a great place for friends and family to meet because we have the space and don’t take bookings, so you can just decide on the day and come and have a Sunday Lunch. You’ll be met with a warm welcome.”
The restaurant “always has a traditional Roast Beef” but also offers a second roast which changes each week - often roast chicken, pork, or turkey. Everything is “made on-site”.
It is wheelchair-friendly and very child-friendly, with a children’s play area and high chairs available. A child’s roast costs £8.50, and “also works as a small plate roast for anybody who doesn’t want a big meal”.
Cara added: "It's a great meeting place for families of all ages. Most of our beautiful Christmas displays and all of our Halloween displays are already up. There's always lots to see and do after enjoying your lunch."
The Elm Tree is open from 10am to 4pm on Sundays, and 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday. Bookings can be made for special occasions such as birthdays, celebrations, or larger tables, by ringing 01823 412381.
