FANCY some food? Where better to go than to a Somerset buffet ideally named 'Somerset Buffet'?
I decided to try out the new restaurant to see how it compared to other popular buffet restaurants in Taunton.
My eyes lit up when I heard there was going to be a new Somerset Buffet in Taunton, not only because it was unlimited (that is always ideal), but because the buffet offers multiple types of cuisine.
If you're thinking of heading to the Somerset Buffet, which resides in Heron Gate near McDonalds and the Odeon Cinema, you won't be short of options, as you can get Indian, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Mexican and Grill food.
Heading in with my brother for dinner, we came in at around 8pm and paid £15.75 each for access to the buffet and a drink, which cost extra.
Heading in on a weeknight the restaurant was pretty busy, with 20-30 people in there when I was.
Lunch and Dinner service is available at the Somerset Buffet - with the restaurant open every day from 12pm-10pm, which includes weekends.
Ordering during lunch hours is also cheaper.
I wanted to give everything a go and see how good their food was.
Trying the Indian, I wasn't too pleased. Considering this was a former Indian restaurant I expected the food to taste a bit better than it did.
There was no keema naan when I went there, so I opted for the Peshawari naan which I didn't like.
The Somerset Buffet provides plain naan, garlic naan, peshwari naan and cheese naan.
The lamb bhoona was nice, as was the chicken laziz, which held the perfect amount of spice for someone looking for a fiery dish.
I didn't like the chicken korma or lamb tikka masala, I feel like the amount of cashew nut flavour in these dishes was too strong - but the meat was decent.
The pilau rice was okay, but didn't meet my expectations, I much preferred the Thai egg fried rice which tasted very fresh.
Other Thai food I would recommend at the Somerset Buffet is the oyster sauce, which you can get with chicken, beef and vegetables.
I would also recommend the Red Curry.
I was happy as the servers were quick at getting me and my brother anything we asked for.
This was particularly helpful when wanting fresh food options, like the amazing tacos and burritos.
They were quite quick to prepare, as it seemed like it only took five minutes for the tacos to come out and then the burrito, which only took 10 minutes.
Speaking of Mexican food, the tacos were definitely my personal favourite, which consists of two flour corn tortillas filled with chicken/beef or vegetable, they also come with a pico de Gallo, sour cream, guacamole and salsa.
When my brother and I headed over to see the dessert options, the chocolate fountain was turned off which was disappointing.
But luckily the owner came over and joked with us before turning it back on which was good.
Probably could've done with more marshmallows and sweets, but I assume that will come in with time.
Continuing to chat with one of the co-owners, Salman, I was told there are "big plans" for the Somerset Buffet next month.
Salman said: "We've been so busy.
"The restaurant is in a good place (Heron Gate) as we are right by the cinema and Hollywood Bowl, so why not pop in to see us?
"In the next month, we have so much planned, we are looking at bringing in 360 cameras and new food."
He also mentioned that customers will be able to be served fresh food (including burgers and Mexican options) with a cook making the food in a station near the other food that is already out.
I'd recommend you give the Somerset Buffet a go as it is decent value for money.
The restaurant definitely rivals Meis Buffet in Taunton due to the range of food and the fact you can order fresh food.
When you go in I urge you to ask your waiter to try some of the fresh food (particularly the beef burger and the tacos), that way you feel you definitely get your value for money.
You can find the Somerset Buffet at: 16 Heron Gate, Taunton TA1 2LP.
