A special tribute will honour a local WWI hero on the anniversary of his death.
William Palliser Bruford, who died in the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917, will be remembered in a unique presentation at Cheddon Fitzpaine Memorial Hall.
The event is set for October 24 at 7pm and will feature insights from Mike Batsch, chair of Cheddon Fitzpaine PC, Simon Augustyn, and Wouter De Witte from the Passchendaele Museum.
It aims to raise funds for the on-going development of the Somerset Wood.
Mr Bruford, who grew up on Old Nerrols Farm, Cheddon Fitzpaine, is recognised as the "face of Somerset Wood," a WWI commemorative area in Maidenbrook Country Park.
He died fighting in the grounds of Zonnebeke Chateau, near Ypres, Belgium, now home to the Passchendaele Museum.
Mr Bruford's story is remembered in a special display in the museum, marking the exact spot where he and others fell.
The presentation aims to give a unique insight into his life from where it began to where it ended, highlighting his role in the broader context of the First World War.
It will serve as a fundraiser for Somerset Wood, with voluntary donations accepted at the door.
To manage attendance, organisers request interested parties to register their interest.
This can be done by contacting Mike Batsch on 07770 946135 or booking online via Eventbrite at eventbrite.com.
