Broadband relief in Ilchester has arrived as work has been completed to provide properties with full fibre connection.

The project, which began in March, was carried out by telecoms company Gigaclear.

Engineers extended the network northwards from Yeovil, connecting around 850 properties in the village.

This was achieved by digging new trenches and using existing infrastructure such as poles and ducting.

Senior project manager Glenn Ellis said: "Taking our full fibre to rural communities that would otherwise have copper or an inferior broadband connection fundamentally changes them for the better because it creates choice for the people in those communities about how they work and how they live their lives."

The company said it is working hard to ensure rural, often hard-to-reach communities such as Ilchester are able to access the same fast and reliable full fibre broadband enjoyed by larger urban areas.
