A POPULAR restaurant that "offers a slice of Madeira", celebrated almost 10 years of service in Taunton last week.
The Skewer House, which moved to Taunton in 2014, is a perfect spot for those craving some Portuguese flavour.
The restaurant is a family-run Restaurant serving "Espetadas", which are traditional Madeiran skewers.
The family is from the island of Madeira, a small Portuguese island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Speaking about their opening almost 10 years ago, the restaurant said: "We moved to Somerset in 2014 and quickly realised that Somerset could benefit from some Portuguese flavour.
"We found the perfect listed building in Taunton and set out to create this amazing space.
"We wanted the space to be reminiscent of a traditional 'Casa De Espetada', a skewer house.
"We sourced wood from the Quantocks and made the tables, the crockery from Madeira and the church pews from a church in Bridgwater.
"Focusing on every detail to transform the building into what it is today.
"We have slowly become one of the best restaurants in Taunton, with a reputation that we are extremely proud of."
Officially celebrating last week, the Skewer house turned 8 on October 16.
As a way of saying thank you to all their loyal customers, the Portuguese restaurant was offering a "treat" for all customers who booked in on their birthday.
Speaking about the restaurant this month, a spokesperson from the Skewer House said: "It's our 8th birthday!
"Wow. When we took on this exciting new venture, we never imagined what The Skewer House would look like 8 years on.
"We are so grateful to all our customers, old and new & our superstar team who have supported our little independent business along the way.
"From the bottom of our hearts, Obrigado.
"Love always, The Skewer House Family."
