Somerset Council has approved their plans to build CCTV posts and landscaping at Trenchard Way.
Document 38/24/0231/NMA asked for approval to build a storeroom opposite the GWR extension, and install 'alternative' paving materials to run around GWR building.
Plans also included alternative materials to match surfaces for both cycles and pedestrians already installed at Trenchard Way junction
Also to install five motor lamp posts to enable installation of CCTV on land south of Trenchard Way, Firepool, Taunton.
It was approved on October 14, with conditions that the development must be built in accordance with previously approved Firepool-Block 3', plans from 2024.
Another condition is the site must be built within three years. The work is part of a scheme to link Taunton’s train station car park and Firepool development to the town’s road network with cycling and bus services.
Somerset Council, Great Western Railway, Network Rail and contractor Milestone have worked together to deliver junction access from Trenchard Way to an £11m Digital Innovation Centre, and the station’s multi-storey car park. The scheme is part of a multi-million- pound regeneration of the town’s transport hub.
The scheme enhances access, which opened in 2023 to the station and Firepool site for cyclists, pedestrians and bus services, which will be able to use the new stops from 12 June.
It provides a route for buses to collect rail passengers directly from the station.
The project is jointly funded by the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, Department for Transport, and Somerset Council.
