GIDEON Amos is floating ideas around about how he can better communicate with residents who live in Taunton and Wellington.

The Lib Dem MP, who became the new MP for Taunton and Wellington this year in July, is hoping for “a new era of optimism” as we head into the new year.

Hoping to find more informal ways of speaking to constituents within Taunton and Wellington, the Liberal Democrat MP has been discussing different ways of communicating with people in Somerset - which includes "pub surgeries".

Speaking about his ideas of how to communicate with his constituents, Gideon Amos said: "An idea, let me know what you think!

"I’ve had a few people suggest I hold some informal ‘pub surgeries’ for people who as opposed to wanting a confidential chat about a complex case, would like to chat about local issues, national politics, policy and anything else they’d like!

"This would likely take place in a pub, where I would let you know a time when I will be there, and anyone is welcome to join me for a drink and a chat.

"Of course, my usual private surgeries will continue to be held for people who have emailed me to assist with their issues.

"What do you think? Would this be useful? I am very keen to break down the barriers of political representation that people increasingly feel, so any suggestions are most welcome.

"Thanks, Gideon."
