The bell ringers of St John the Baptist Church in Glastonbury have received a new set of ropes.
Gifted on October 10 by the Friends of St John’s, the new ropes were made possible by a bequest from the late John R Brunsdon MBE.
Mr Brunsdon was a dedicated bell ringer and former tower captain.
Rev Pamela Heazell blessed the new ropes, and Martin Hartfield, chair of the Friends and a ringer, presented them to the nine ringers.
Tower captain Mike Palmer said: "It’s an important step in the rejuvenation of bell ringing in Glastonbury post-COVID.
"Not only will the new ropes last longer, but the sallies feel so much better to ring and also make the ringing chamber look very smart."
St John's has eight bells, the oldest cast in 1783, and is keen to hear from anyone interested in joining: email glastonbury.stjohn@bath-wells.org.
