A TAUNTON footpath is due to temporarily close next month as planned works are completed.

The footpath between Thames Drive and Ilminster Road will be closed in November as network cabling is installed.

The works are expected to commence on November 16, 2024, and last until November 19, 2024, for a total of 4 days.

Somerset Council have stated that there is no alternative route for this closure.

A spokesperson from the Somerset Council announced the planned works today: "Somerset Council in exercise of its powers under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, intends to make an Order, the effect of which will prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding along Footway Between Thames Drive And Ilminster Road With Links To Various Streets.

"The effect of which will prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding along Footway Between Thames Drive And Ilminster Road With Links To Various Streets - from the junction with Thames Drive, northwards for a distance of 94 metres and from the junction with Calder Crescent, northwards for a distance of 132 metres.

"This Order will enable DMT to install of a narrow trench, microduct, toby boxes and subsequent installation of network cabling on behalf of Avonline Networks.

"The Order becomes effective on November 7, 2024, and will remain in force for six months.

"The works are expected to commence on November 16, 2024, and last until November 19, 2024, between the hours of 00:00 - 23:59 for a total of 4 days.

"There is no alternative route for this closure."
