South Western Railway (SWR) is to offer free travel for serving military personnel and veterans attending Remembrance Sunday events.
This offer is available for any local events on Sunday, November 10.
Additionally, travel to Waterloo for the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph on either Saturday, November 9, or Sunday, November 10, with a return on Sunday, November 10, is included.
The offer also covers the Submariners’ Remembrance Service on Sunday, November 3, with travel to Waterloo on either Saturday, November 2, or Sunday, November 3, returning on Sunday, November 3.
The Department for Transport funds the free travel offer, which is available to those travelling in uniform or who can present an appropriate form of identification.
It applies across Great Britain.
SWR is also supporting Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal volunteers, offering free travel to and from London for Poppy Day events on Thursday, October 31.
Anyone with a Royal British Legion collector’s ID can travel for free on SWR services to Waterloo on Wednesday, October 30, or Thursday, October 31, returning on Thursday or Friday, November 1.
Peter Williams, customer and commercial director for South Western Railway, said: "Remembrance Sunday is an important opportunity for people across the country to reflect on the sacrifices made by generations of service personnel.
"Alongside the rest of the railway industry, we are pleased to honour this sacrifice by offering free travel to active personnel and veterans attending Remembrance Sunday and London Poppy Day events.
"This initiative is especially meaningful to us, as many of our SWR colleagues have a proud background in the armed forces."
Customers are advised of engineering works scheduled for various locations on the SWR network in south west London, Surrey, and Hampshire on Sunday, November 3, and Sunday, November 10.
Those planning to travel on these days should check journey planners before travelling.
SWR has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, holds the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award, and has an active Armed Forces Network of colleagues who have served.
