A WELLINGTON council building could be redeveloped into a "four-bedroom detached house" as it hits the market for £250,000.
The redundant county council building at 55 North Street, Wellington, was most recently used to house the town’s library temporarily, while the main library in Fore Street underwent a major re-fit.
Now the prominent property at North Street, which sits opposite the town’s fire station, will be sold at auction on Wednesday, December 11.
It is guided at £250,000, marketed by Greenslade Taylor Hunt (GTH) who suggests there is "scope to re-develop the site, subject to the necessary consents".
A spokesman for GTH said: “There has been no official planning submissions so far.
"The original stone building is Grade II listed. It has potential to be converted into a large three or four-bedroom detached house.”
The rear portion of the site comprises an open parking forecourt with a single-storey flat roof building, which could be demolished to open up the site and create space for new homes, the firm suggests.
However, it added that the site had a couple of legal constraints to the site; a public footpath connects North Street with Lodge Close and runs through the site, which could be preserved.
There is also a vehicle right of way from the rear entrance at Lodge Close, which runs through the site and serves two adjoining properties, which GTH said would require further investigation.
