A CROSSING in Taunton has "taken a beating" after a vehicle crash that happened near Taunton's Morrisons.

Occurring yesterday (October 30), a vehicle crash on Priory Bridge Road has put a pedestrian crossing into the ground.

Happening before 2pm, no injuries have been thus far reported from the incident in Taunton.

Work is ongoing to repair the damage caused by the vehicle, with the crossing needing a full replacement.

An "eye-witness" saw the crash happen as they were walking home with their shopping yesterday.

The eye-witness, who chose to remain unnamed, said: "A car has crashed into a pedestrian crossing near Morrisons on Priory Bridge Road.

"If you go and have a look you can see it's really taken a beating.

"When I saw the crash, it was about 1:40pm, and police came and taped up the broken crossing.

"No one seemed injured from the incident."

The new crossing should be in place by the end of today (October 31).

Aspokesperson from the Avon and Somerset police said: “We were called at 1.20pm yesterday afternoon (30 October) to a report that a car had collided with a traffic light in Priory Bridge Road, Taunton.

“Officers attended and temporarily closed the road while the vehicle was recovered and the traffic light was made safe, ahead of repairs being carried out by the local authority.

"It was reopened at 2.51pm.

“A woman, the driver of the car, went to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.”
