CHARD Royal British Legion (RBL) had a very successful Poppy Appeal Launch inside the Guildhall last week, which included many local charities, groups and organisations.

In total, the day raised over £1200 which will directly go towards supporting the Armed Forces Community throughout their Poppy Appeal.

The charities, groups and organisations involved included: Glasper’s Printing and Engravings who printed the posters for the event, Nicky and her team in the Community and the Chard CommuniTEA Waffle who donated refreshments and cakes, The Tunnel Target Sports Centre, the Ilminster Air Cadets, Chard Army Cadets, Girlguiding Chard, The Redstart Primary School, Avishayes School, Holyrood Academy, Andy Day from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Chard Museum and Heritage Centre, Ark at Egwood, Chard Watch CIC and many others.

Darren Squires, Chard RBL chairman said: “We are very proud of the support Chard and its residents give to our Armed Forces Community.

“The money raised will help and support the ongoing welfare needs of beneficiaries through the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and ensures that those who gave the ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Another spokesperson for the Chard RBL added: “This is an incredible amount on day one of our Poppy Appeal and your support as a local community is fantastic. This money is vital to ensure the care and support is there for all who served and their dependents.”
